I'm a fractional brand strategist who joins your business as senior brand lead for a defined period or project, working inside the team.

Best Questions To Ask

  • When do you need one?

I connect your business strategy to your brand infrastructure: positioning, architecture, messaging, and the creative systems that guide marketing, product, culture, and customer experience. Working inside the team for a defined period, I built the foundation of how the business understands and communicates itself and its offers. From there, the business can confidently be in the market and shape a customer and employee journey that is growing with the challenges.

Startups, family businesses, and scaling SMEs tend to reach for this at the same junctures: growing faster than the foundation can keep up, entering a new market, shaping a new product or hiring quickly. In my experience, setting the foundation early is the stronger path for a more sustainable reputation, faster sales cycles and clearer customer journey.

A startup that treats brand as an extra cost and makes do with a disconnected position can hit a wall around the three-year mark, when it has to invest heavily in staff, technology, and operations with little brand foundation. Rebuilding costs far outweigh getting the structure and the links between market, product, and customer right from the start. Planning in the founding stage provides a good platform to start from, even when there are so many competing priorities.

Alternatively, a brand refresh is not a logo refresh. It is an internal strategy reset, and it requires a different skillset than an advertising agency typically offers.

  • I join your in-house business team and take part in the decisions and the delivery for the agreed duration. A consultant typically diagnoses and hands over a report or a brief change management project. I stay in the room, contributing across sales, product, marketing, and people, building the strategy with your team and seeing it through into how the business actually runs.

  • Yes, across functions and as part of the in-house team for the engagement. I build capability and alignment that stay with the business, so your people can carry the work forward.

  • Different skill set, different layer of the business. I work at the brand layer, connecting your business strategy to the brand, so positioning, architecture, and messaging are defined before anything is spent promoting them. Marketing needs the sound brand foundation. Your Director, Manager or in-house team runs on it in the long-term.

  • Yes. I work closely with in-house teams and your existing agencies and suppliers, giving them clear strategy and creative direction so their execution is on point and consistent. I am there to make the whole system work together, not to replace the people already in it, unless there is an agreed better option to recommend.

  • Both. Some projects are project-based, scoped to a defined piece of work. Others are ongoing part-time engagements, often three or four days a week. The right shape depends on the brief and the stage the business is in. I am based in Perth, so for businesses in Western Australia I prefer a hybrid of in-person and remote. For other states and international work, I work remotely.

  • It depends on the brief and the situation of the business, its structure, and its sales or product maturity. Some are a defined project; others run over a longer period as the work moves from strategy into activation and governance. We agree on the scope and duration up front through a brief and progress review.

  • Yes. My focus is upstream: defining the market position, the brand strategy, and the plan. Since I have a professional background as an Art Director, I can develop or revise your branding. Hands-on means mentoring your staff, shaping the market and brand plans, and advising at the executive level, then carrying that foundation through into execution. I build in-house stewardship, so your team can lead the brand from the inside and keep it strong as the business grows. I work with your team and any agencies so they can action the strategy with clear, creative execution, and I set the governance that holds it consistent.

  • Private companies, SMEs, and startups in sectors that value precision, depth, and resilience: biotechnology, software, construction, manufacturing, clean tech, and business services, primarily in Australia and the UK. The work adapts to the stage, from founding-stage startups to scaling SMEs and global mid-market businesses. Check the works page for customer success stories.

  • The fundamentals apply to B2C as much as B2B: market fit, customer fit, a clear position, a brand that operates across the business, and everyone aligned on what you offer and to whom. The sales cycle and the technology differ, so the approach adapts. Contact me, and we can talk through where your business is and take it from there.
